About the artist
Dimitris Fousekis is an award-winning illustrator, painter and teacher living in the Greek island of Hydra. He exhibits regularly and runs art workshops designed for both children and adults. In his workshops, he aims to unleash everyone’s inner creativity by encouraging collective painting while experiencing the natural beauty, culture and artistic history of Hydra.
Dimitris collaborates with design studios, publishers and advertising agencies, illustrating children’s picture books and creating images featured in museums, such as the World Wildlife Fund Museum in the Zagorohoria mountain region and the Museum of Marble Crafts on the island of Tinos. He has also contributed handwritten-style font designs as a member of the Parachute Font creative team and won the IBBY (Greece) best illustration award for the book Whisker Smile.
Fluent in Greek, English and Italian, Dimitris was born in 1966 in Tripoli, Libya, to Greek parents, spent his early years in Rome, and then studied geology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His academic illustrations range from publications on paleontology to a collaboration with the Hellenic Ministry of Culture drawing the antiquities discovered during the construction of the Athens metro.
